The Dark Tenor (born April 14, 1980, in Graz, Austria) is the pseudonym of a crossover artist. His real name remained unknown for a long time but has since been revealed by mutual agreement as William (Billy) Andrew Volk. However, he publicly goes by the name Billy Andrews. He combines popular melodies from classical music with new lyrics and melodies from pop music. The crossover artist's trademark was concealing his face with a black mask and hood, later with a black half-mask. Since the release of the album *Nightfall Symphony*, however, he has abandoned even this. He cites the album's theme—coming out of one's shell—as the reason for this, which is why he felt it was fitting to remove his mask. Instead, he painted black spots around his eyes, so-called panda eyes.
